The Dumping Grounds

They say that the true measure of any given society is how it treats its women, prisoners & animals. Having said that, if any of my dear readers aren't already regular voyeurs of The View from Fez, I strongly urge you to check out today's offering: Women Dumped in Morocco. I'm going to go sit in a corner now and quietly thank the Universe over & over & over again for the parents and husband it bequeathed me.

I seem like be speechless a lot recently. In a perfect world, men who do this would have their passports from the foreign country revoked immediately - but who am I kidding.

This is what I posted on View from Fes:

I asked my husband about this, and he wasn't surprised - he personally knows a man who attempted to do this to his wife. They were living in France, though, and when he stole her papers, she reported it to the police, and somehow was able to obtain documents allowing her re-entry to France - then she cornered the bastard at their house! No killing was involved, though there should have been - she's since remarried and still living in France.

Also, I can't even form a decent sentence, since I'm so angry. Argh.

Nah, that'd be too good.

I'd cut off his zeb, grind it up with my wooden pestel & mortar, and feed it to the cats hanging around the mosque.

I can't believe that anyone would treat another sentient being like that - let alone their own flesh and blood.

What a horrific story.

Think how incensed we become when people dump their pets on the side of highways!

That's a very sad story. That indeed reminded me the stories I heard in my childhood about the pre-islamic barbaric nature of the Arabic countries, where men were burying their daughters alive just because it was a shame to have a daughter. Arabs actually are proud of their religion because they assume their religion saved them from dark ages, what is this, after all? Going back to their dark ages?

Men burying their daughters alive happens to this day. In the Sudan this has happened to women who have affairs outside marriage. It has also happened to unmarried women who engage in pre marital sex.

Hi Cat, I don't know if you have heard about the young 16 year old girl who was hanged by the mullahs in Iran. I am a Brit and a documentary was made by the BBC about what happened. It was a terrible program to watch.
Here is a link to an American blogger

If you scroll down the first page you will see a link to enable you to watch the documentary in full.

Hi again - I am familiar with the case but thanks for the blog link. I'll definitely check it out. I confess to spending way too much time at Iran Focus (http://alamogates.blogspot.com/)
